                Picture
One should always be well-dressed in Paris, but shouldn't one also be wearing one's head? This headless Saint is loved and respected by all Parisians. Here he is on the facade of Notre Dame, flanked on both sides by angels in recognition of his status. Born in the 3rd century, he was the first Bishop of Paris and was martyred for his Christian beliefs. It didn't stop him - he picked up his head and carried it to the site where later the first of the great Gothic Cathedrals was built - named for him, of course. The style was invented there.
WHO IS THIS HEADLESS SAINT? Answer: St. Denis

Bonus question - who was the grudge-holding King? ANSWER: The Pont Neuf in Paris - there are hundreds of leering faces across the span - the best way to see them is from a boat as you pass underneath! King Henry IV built the bridge and put them there - his statue stands on the bridge at the halfway point between the Right and Left Banks.
