The Loire Valley:  Wine, Art, History

Picture
To travel the Loire Valley is to follow a picturesque trail along France's wildest river, past vineyards and towns with names like Vouvray and Sancerre, from one glorious Renaissance era chateau to the next. Many of the chateaux, like Chambord pictured here, are not only beautiful to look at but are powerful links to history, with interesting stories that include Joan of Arc and Leonardo da Vinci.
Some of things you'll learn about in an ArtSmartTalk:
  • The rich and powerful men and women who built and occupied these chateaux.
  • How the Mona Lisa ended up in the Louvre
  • The settings of the chateaux - river, gardens, towns and cities
  • The wine culture of the Loire Valley
Are you planning a trip to the Loire Valley area of France? Would you like to get more out of what you'll see? Would you like some help in deciding which of the many chateaux to visit, and how to find the interesting wineries? Would it just be fun to have the pleasure of learning more about this beautiful area? Is your book group reading about France, and you'd like to arrange an armchair visit for them?
